Word count: Novel-length, at 286,277 words
This is a long fic. It is also a well-written, suspenseful work that shows excellent command of the characters and a real ability to show depths of emotion in subtle, realistic ways. Tonks is absolutely fantastic in this. She is so very real here, not the cardboard cutout of "clumsy, Remus-makes-me-sad mother figure" that she often becomes. She is a new Auror, brave, scared, honest, and inexperienced, and you so very much want her to succeed. The mystery is intriguing and not solved at first glance, and it's beautiful to watch the narrative (and the characters) develop.
If ever a Harry Potter fanfic got made into a published book, I hope this one would be.
